MATHS: This week we are continuing our work on mass, capacity and temperature.

Science: For the rest of this term we will be learning all about animals in their habitats. In this unit children will learn about a variety of habitats and the plants and animals that live there. They will learn to tell the difference between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive, and apply this in a range of contexts.

The link below will take you to the 6 lessons that will take us up to the end of term.

Unit: Habitats | Teacher Hub | Oak National Academy (thenational.academy)

Hello boys and girls!

Firstly can we just say how proud we all are of you coping so well with the changes to our learning that popped up  unexpectedly this morning. You all just took it in your stride and helped massively to get your learning packs together super speedily! We know you will try your very best at home to complete your learning to the best of your abilities just like you would in school. But please do not worry if there is something you find too tricky to complete at home, leave it and we will help you when we are back in school.

Keep all your learning safe and return it to us next week. We will be sticking our english into our books, filing the maths away in our folders and sharing our wonderful butterfly poems together. You also need your butterfly diary back in school as there more pages to complete when we are back in school.

We can't wait to see any of the science or art activities you also complete.

Also look after all your equipment and return it when you come back. (Parents sorry about the state of the packets - they've served us well all year and are on their last legs!)

If you have any queries regarding learning, please get in touch via our email address year2@bellevue.cumbria.sch.uk . Any other queries please direct to the school admin email/ telephone as you would normally.

Have fun with your learning , keep safe and we can't wait to see you all again soon!

Reading comprehension

Complete a piece of comprehension each day for about 15-20 mins just like we do in school. We have attached copies to help you or in case the sheets have gone astray (the packs were put together in a hurry by the children themselves)

  1. First finish the poem comprehension we started on Tuesday morning. Read all the poem and finish the rest of the questions. The poem is entitled ‘Look at Me’ and is a poem all about butterfly /caterpillar metamorphosis. The poem is on one page and the questions on another.

2. Second reading comprehension activity is a non fiction piece again all about butterfly metamorphosis. Read the information sheet and answer the questions on the other page. Split it into 2 sessions if you wish.

Writing -these are learning tasks we would have completed in school and some we started. They are to be written in the butterfly diaries which are in the packs too and have already been started. Later in the week we will upload a video/pictures of the caterpillars so you can see their progress and write another entry.

  1. Draft the acrostic poem and then write in neat in your butterfly booklet.

See the powerpoint to help you. There are examples & a word bank.

A diary entry charting the progress of the caterpillars. Use our previous entries to help you remember the diary genre of writing and all things Year 2 writers need to remember.

Maths -Calculations

Look at the powerpoint each day and complete calculations. Choose from bronze, silver or gold. The answers will be on the next slides so you can mark your own (just like in school) Remember to have another go if you get any incorrect. We have provided squared paper in the packs. There are two weeks worth just to keep your maths brain busy!

We’ve tried to include a little spelling activity for each day, just like we do at school. This week there is a choice of completing online activities at BBC bitesize (they are all on the same page you just need to scroll down) or pages from the Twinkl activity booklet as well as some of our usual. You choose!

DAY 1: Watch video How to use apostrophes in contractions - BBC Bitesize Write out your spellings. Think carefully about which letters have been removed and replaced by an apostrophe.

You choose:  Pg 2 booklet. (see below) If you can’t print it just write 4 pairs of words using the two words and then the contracted form. OR Complete online BBC bitesize activity 1 (under the video) Fill in the gaps.

DAY 2: Complete the contracted forms booklet pg 3. Again just write words out in your exercise book if you can’t print.  OR Complete the BBC bitesize activity Fill in the gaps 2.

DAY 3Write a sentence for each of your contracted words or Complete BBC bitesize Highlight the words (scroll down the page)

DAY 4- LOG & LEARN – practise your spellings again – write them out in your spelling book. Use a red if you can to mark the apostrophe just like we do at school.  Eg Cant

DICTATION – get an adult to read out these sentences one at a time, use my turn your turn until you can say it back to them (just like we do at school) then write the sentence. Get the adult to check you have wrote it our correctly and spellings are correct. Remember to practise any you found tricky with a crayon if you can – just like at school.  I don’t like it when it is too wet to play outside. Are you sure you wouldn’t like another pack of sweets?

Day 5 : Mixture of TEAM TEACH & FOUR IN A ROW: I’ve combined these 2 games into one so that you can play at home. Write your spellings onto slips of paper. Sort them into easy and hard, remembering to put the easy ones on the top. Turn a word over have a good look at it, use your fred fingers to sound it out. Hide it, then write the word. Next turn the word card back over and tick all the correct letters, circle any errors and correct them. Can you get 4 in a row? Give your self a star for each word you spell correctly.

Or Play the last quiz at BBC Bitesize.

SPELLING TEST:  Please ask a grown up to test you on your spellings and make a note of your score.

Extra: If you are finding these tricky this week, just complete a few more of the pages in the booklet to help you

Tuesday

IDENTIFY THE TRICKY BITS!

Write out your spellings as a list in your exercise book or on paper. Think about which parts of the word will be tricky. Use your 'Fred Fingers' to sound them out then stop and think when you get to a tricky part that doesn't 'sound out' and use the graphemes/phonemes we know. EXAMPLE would 'w - u - d'    u sound is spelt with oul. Write your spellings again and underline the letters that make the tricky part.

Wednesday

RAINBOW WRITE: Practise your spellings by writing them out using different colour pens or pencils. Write that tricky part with a bright colour so it really stands out.

Thursday

UNDERSTAND MEANING Some of the words are homophones. To help understand what the words mean and how to use the correct version  write a sentence for each of your spellings.

Friday

FINAL PRACTISE & TEST Play a game that is similar to 4 in a row & team teach. Write each of your spellings onto slips of paper and then sort them with the easiest on the top of the pile. Read it carefully, turn it over, write it in your exercise book and then check each letter to make sure you've got it correct. Repeat with all words. Can you get 4 in a row? Give yourself a star for each one you get correct.  TEST: Get someone in your house to test you on the spellings you have been practising this week.

                                          MATHS

Daily Calculations: To be completed each day during your maths learning time.

Our maths this week is all about multiplication and making groups.

Please watch each days video in turn, then complete the corresponding worksheet. Don't worry if you can't print the sheets off, talking through each sheet with a grown up is just as good. If you do manage to print them off, keep them somewhere safe and bring them into school once we are all back together again.

Are you a maths master? Can you complete the challenge question set for each day? Don’t forget to make a note of all your answers.

SCIENCE

Following on from our work last term, recognising and sorting foods into the 5 food groups, we would like you to work through the power point identifying healthy and unhealthy foods. Then, using the sheets provided create yourself a nice healthy lunchbox. If you don't have a printer just draw the outline of a lunchbox on a piece of paper and fill it with healthy foods. Aim to make your lunch as balanced as possible referencing the quantities of the eatwell plate.

Don't forget to label your drawings.

Just for fun!! Can you make a colourful, culinary creation using fruit and vegetables? Take a look at some of the amazing ideas below!
