This week, we are writing our own non-chronological reports about volcanoes! We have already looked at the features of a non-chronological report (title, sub-headings, contains facts about the subject, topic words, third person, present tense and often has bullet points, pictures and diagrams). Please see the example non-chronological report below named 'Volcanoes - Magma Rising' which we have looked at in class.
Please include the following sub-headings in your report:
Monday - How a volcano is formed
Tuesday - Types of volcanoes,
Wednesday - Where volcanoes are found (look at The Ring of Fire!)
Thursday - Mount Vesuvius
Friday - Fun Facts/a sub-heading of your choice about volcanoes!
Below are two lessons looking at how a volcano is formed and the different types of volcanoes - these will help you with the first two sub headings. You can also use different sources such as books and the internet to find out your information for each sub heading.

There is also a project for the children to complete over the coming weeks about continents, this does not all need to be done this week. If you are unable to print out the resources, your child could have a go and drawing the images themselves.
There is also some ideas for activities to keep active. We would love to see some pictures or videos of you trying some of the activities. Remember to challenge yourself.
Geography project
We would like the children to research the seven continents of the world and create a poster / leaflet / powerpoint or information book about them. They could research things like the biggest country in the continent, the number of countries that they continent has, any famous landmarks, famous people form the continent, traditional food that is eaten....it is up to them what they research and how they present their work. The children could draw pictures / maps to go with their research. We can not wait to see the final pieces of work. Remember this does not need to be fully completed this week.
Below are some documents that might help with the children's research. They might also want to use the internet to help with their research or any books that they have at home.

This week we would like you to write your own version of the story but set in the Iron Age. It will be called Iron Age boy OR Iron Age Girl.
Monday - Below is a list of all the things that happen in the Stone Age Boy story. In red are some sections of the story that will need to change for you to turn the story into Iron Age Boy/Girl. Fill in the boxes to plan your Iron Age story. See if you can use your knowledge of the Iron Age to change any of the boxes with red sections. (Don't worry if you can't yet, there are lots of things below to look at to help answer your questions and to help you write a fantastic story.)

|

|
Tuesday - Begin to write your story. Focus for today on the beginning of your story, up until you meet your Iron Age character.
Think about:
- How will the Iron Age person look different to you?
- Remember to check your own sentence length, capital letters, full stops and spellings.
Wednesday - Today you are going to write about the character's home.
Think about:
- Will they live in a camp?
- What will they give you to eat when you arrive?
- What jobs will the Iron Age people be doing?
Thursday - Please write the section of your story where your character learns to make an Iron Sword. Below is a page from the book "The Iron Age" to help you write this section.
Think about:
- The steps in order for making a sword
- How it would feel to make that sword (would you be nervous, excited, etc).
- Use key vocabulary such as furnace, iron ore and bellows.
Friday - Can you finish your story? Use the video of a mine below to help you describe the setting (You only need to watch from 2:30min for about 1 minute or so):
Think about:
- describing the mine
- how your character feels throughout this part of the story
- Make sure your character ends up at home.
History
Monday - For your story tomorrow, you will need to be able to describe Iron Age clothing and to know what Iron Age people might have eaten. Use the links below to find out and make notes.
Try to answer these questions:
- What is a tunic?
- What colour would the clothes be?
- What materials would the Iron Age people have made clothes from?
- What types of food would Iron Age people eat?
Tuesday
For the next part of your story you will need to know what an Iron Age settlement might have looked like and what the people might have done during each day. Use the resources from yesterday as well as the ones below to help you make notes to get ready for your story writing tomorrow.
Art
Below is a link to an assembly about poppies. Your task is to create a piece of artwork about remembrance - linked to poppies. You can use your science knowledge about plants and / or your knowledge and skills from our Georgia O'Keeffe work if you wish. Alternatively, you can create any kind of poppy artwork that you fancy.
