We've been studying reproduction and life cycles in plants and animals throughout the summer term. This week's lesson will take a close look at the following question: are the life cycles of mammals all the same?

English Lessons Week Beginning: 22.02.21

This week we will be working on your reading and writing skills by working through the 'Talk for Writing' booklet 'One Chance', the link for which you can find below. By the end of the the week you will have written your own 'wishing story' which we hope you will share with us during our live sessions next week, or via email.

 

You will notice that there are fewer grammar sessions this week, therefore it is hoped that you will have more time to focus on the activities in the 'One Chance' booklet. There is no expectation for you to print the booklet, as all writing activities can be carried out on whatever writing resources you have available.

This week we would like you to find out all you can about what life was like for children in Ancient Greece. What were their homes like; what food did they eat; what clothes did they wear; what games did they play and what did they learn at school? Below is a link to start you off. 

 

To show your learning, we would like you to either write the instructions on how to play an Ancient Greek game, or write the recipe for an Ancient Greek dish (meal). Remember to include lots of detail in your instructions. Again we would like you to share your instructions during our live sessions, or via email.

Our science topic this half term is 'forces'. I wonder, what do you already know about them? 

There are 3 tasks for you to complete over the week:

English Lessons Week Beginning: 8.2.21 

In the lesson below, we will be revising all the features of a newspaper report, looking at the headline, 5Ws, witness statements, direct and indirect speech, journalistic sentence starters and lastly, tense in the final paragraph. Then, based on a new stimulus following the same theme of Spiderman, you will write your own newspaper report.

 

However, if you feel you would like a different challenge you could write a newspaper report about one of the Greek myths we have been focusing on in our comprehension activities. 

 

This English project should take four days:

Monday - Watch the lesson below then draft your newspaper report.

Tuesday - Proof read, improve and edit your newspaper report.

Wednesday - Write up your improved newspaper report either by hand or you could use Microsoft Word if you have it. 

Thursday - Read your newspaper report to another person. You could pretend you are a news reader on television. 

Friday - Reading for Pleasure: In this lesson, we will develop reading for pleasure through book recommendations. We will focus on poetry, picture books and non-fiction. You will then generate your own recommendations to share with others during our live sessions after half-term.

Ancient Greeks Topic Task 1 - Week Beginning: 8.2.21

This week we would like you to find out about a significant person from the time of Ancient Greece. Below are links to two famous people of the period; Alexander the Great and Archimedes. However, you may want to focus on one of the following people instead: Aesop, Aristotle, Homer, Hippocrates, Herodotus. As usual, it is up to you how you would like to show your learning, try and be as creative as you can.

Ancient Greeks Topic Task 2 (Top Trumps) Week Beginning: 8.2.21

Your task is to design and create a set of top trump cards for the Ancient Greek gods.

Step 1: Read the ‘Greek Gods Information Sheet’ to find out about the 12 main gods and goddesses. Carry out any extra research you need by using the internet.

Step 2: Open the ‘Greek Gods Top Trumps Template’ document. Look at the example and then use the templates to make your own set of cards. Think of 4 different categories for your top trump cards. These features have to have values that can work with all of the gods and goddesses on your cards. Here are some suggestions..

- Magic          - Strength            - Intelligence        - Powers            - Wisdom

Step 3: Find somebody to play your top trumps game with!

Art - Photography

For this second lesson focusing on light you will need a pencil, paper and some form of camera, the one on your phone or tablet will be great. If you do not have a phone or tablet, you may be able to borrow one, but remember to ask permission first.

This week we are focusing on the City States of Ancient Greece, the most famous being, Sparta, Athens, Corinth and Delphi. This is a one week topic activity and to show your learning we would like you to create an advert or travel review about your favourite City State and why people should visit. This can be a poster, leaflet, Tripadvisor post (like the ones we did in school), a radio advert ,or even a video/TV advert in the style of Horrible Histories! Below are some links to help with your research.

As we are all spending more time online and using technology more often, we thought it would be a good idea if this week's topic work was based around staying safe online.

Below is a link to three videos and four lessons we would like you to watch about being cyber smart! After watching the videos and the lessons, we would like you to teach others how to stay safe whilst still enjoying all the fun stuff you can do online. You could do this by creating a poster, leaflet, PowerPoint presentation, video, poem, song, paly or any other fantastic idea you have. 

 

After this two week project we will be rejoining the Ancient Greeks!
