Welcome to the Year 6 area. Here you will find key information about the year ahead..
The final year of primary school really is one to enjoy. Whether it be our collaborative Tullie project, developing skills in the run-up to SATs or seeing our capital on the London residential, the year is certain to be full of memorable moments. There are indeed many things to look forward to as the children enjoy being the oldest in the school!
With that in mind, our aim is to encourage the children to become increasingly independent as the year progresses - both in terms of their learning and general organisation - so that they are in a great place to make a successful transition to secondary.
Simply put, this final year of primary school is busy but brilliant! To see what we are learning about, click on the curriculum map pdf document at the bottom of the page.
Timetable/Key Details
PE – PE day is on a Monday. Please ensure kit is in school each week and if your child has ear piercings please also send in plasters/tape to cover them up (if they cannot be removed).
Homework – All homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be returned ready to be marked on the following Friday. Children will receive maths, reading comprehension, SPaG and spellings each week. Where possible, we try to link homework to learning in class so that children are somewhat familiar with the topics. We offer support for homework in school so please encourage your children to ask if they require help.
Reading for Pleasure – We continue to prioritise reading for pleasure at school and appreciate your support in listening to your children read, or simply having a conversation about reading, at home. Children are aware that they need to keep a record of their reading in their reading records (both the date and pages read as well as a list of books from across different genres). We encourage children to be responsible for this themselves rather than it being onerous for you.
SATs – SATs week begins Monday 11th May 2026.
London Residential – Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd July 2026.
We look forward to meeting you all and enjoying a successful year with your children.
Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team (Mr Meaton, Mr Jenkinson, Mrs Thompson, Mrs Warwick and Mrs Cuthbert)
