Welcome to the Year 6 area. Here you will find key information and updates as the year progresses.
Whilst there’s an awful lot of learning to enjoy, our aim is to prepare the children for a successful transition to secondary school. With this in mind, we strive to ensure the children become increasingly independent by taking ownership of their learning and the wider organisational aspects of school life.
This final year of primary school is busy but brilliant! To see what we are learning about, click on the curriculum map pdf document at the bottom of the page.
Timetable/Key Details
PE – PE day is on a Thursday. Please ensure kit is in school each week and if your child has ear piercings please also send in plasters/tape to cover them up (if they cannot be removed).
Homework – All homework is given out on a Thursday and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday (ready to be marked on Thursday). Children will receive maths, reading comprehension, SPaG and spellings each week. Where possible, we try to link homework to learning in class so that children are somewhat familiar with the topics.
Reading for Pleasure – We continue to prioritise reading for pleasure at school and appreciate your support in listening to your children read, or simply having a conversation about reading, at home. Children are aware that they need to keep a record of their reading in their reading records (both the date and pages read as well as a list of books from across different genres).
SATs – SATs week begins Monday 12th May 2025. Mock SATs will take place in school the week before February half term in order to help us prepare the children as best we can.
London Residential – Wednesday 2nd to Friday 4th July 2025.
We look forward to meeting you all and enjoying a successful year with your children. We will be in touch shortly to invite you into school at some point this coming half term.
Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team (Mrs Kersey, Mr Meaton, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Warwick)
