Reading Curriculum Progression Maps

At Belle Vue we believe it is vital that pupils are able to read independently and fluently and understand and comprehend what they have read.

Whilst pupils get regular phonics instruction and reading support to help them decode texts, alongside this we employ a ‘shared reading’ approach to help them in their understanding. This allows all pupils who, including those who are not yet able to decode or read fluently, to access and develop other reading skills.


These skills develop throughout school, underpinned by our use of the VIPERS acronym.
