Welcome to year 2
We are really looking forward to the year ahead. Below you will find key information about year 2 as well as our curriculum overview for the year ahead.
Year 2 team
2AW - Miss Wharton and Mrs Harrison
2TN - Miss Nash, Mrs Townsend and Mrs Setchell
PE
In the first half term of Spring, both classes will do PE on a Monday. We are lucky to have a coach from Carlisle United delivering gymnastics. Please ensure all jewellery is removed or covered and that long hair is fully tied back.
Homework
Maths homework will be sent home and a Friday and will need returning by the following Friday. Children should also access Numbots for up to 30 minutes per week. We will move to Times Table Rock Stars after October half term. In the front of the children's blue maths homework book, they have a page of calculations that they should know by the end of year 2. Please support your child in learning these calculations.
Spellings will also be sent home on a Friday.
Reading - Children are expected to read at least three times each week to an adult. We ask that the adult dates and initials in the reading record if they have heard your child read. An adult in school will hear your child read at least once a week and reading records will be checked weekly. In year 2, all children will bring home a Reading for Pleasure book and once they have read this, they will change it for all a new one. Children who are still reading phonics books in school will also bring home a phonics book on a Friday, this will not be all children in year 2. The phonics book will have been read in school during the week. This book will then be changed the following Friday. Reading for Pleasure books can be changed on any day of the week, we do not have a set day to change books. We encourage the children to change their own reading book when they need to. Of course, we are always on hand to support with this. At the back of your child’s reading record you will find a reading book log where we will record the book that your child currently has at home. We will encourage children to select books from a variety of genres.
