Yr5 STARS OF THE WEEK Friday 10th July, 2020

Once again, the Yr5 Team have been so impressed with all of the time and effort that you have been committing to the home learning. A really genuine and sincere thank you!

As you may already be aware, with the Yr6's returning into smaller class 'bubbles', both Mrs Messenger and Mr Jenkinson are going to be in charge of a Yr6 bubble for the remaining weeks of term. We will still be responsible for the Yr5 home learning curriculum, and Mrs Wright will, in the main, be answering any queries or questions that you have via email. We will still be accessing the Yr5 emails, but not as frequently as in previous weeks. Please continue to send in the fantastic photos of your home learning so that we can upload and share your achievements on our Yr5 gallery.

Below here is your home learning for the week beginning Monday 6th July,2020. It includes: English - a 'Talk for Writing, booklet called 'Year 5-Elves'; Maths -White Rose and BBC Bite-size linked worksheets; spelling and a 'Teach the Teachers' project. There is no expectation for you to print off worksheets, unless you find it helpful, all work can be completed in the exercise books provided before the school was closed.

If you have any questions about any of the work, then please don't hesitate to contact us by email and we will try to get back to you as soon as we can. Don't forget to also email us in any pictures you have of exciting things that you have been doing whilst you have been at home during the school closure. Our email address is:

The whole of the Yr5 team are missing you all and hope that you're keeping safe, well and occupied!Have a fantastic week, enjoy the weather and look after yourselves and your families!

Summer Reading Challenge

Cumbria County Council launched their 'Summer Reading Challenge' on 15th June (they have released it early this year to encourage children to keep reading over the summer holidays) and it runs until September. The theme is "Silly Squad" - a celebration of funny books, happiness and laughter.

We have attached some information about the challenge below.

There are still  4 'angles' tasks in your accounts on MyMaths, if you haven't accessed them yet, as an alternative option if you prefer.

There is a daily maths challenge calendar for July which I have found that might appeal to some of you too!!

I have also included some Challenge by Choice reasoning tasks below here to make sure that this aspect of the maths curriculum is being kept fit too!!

'Teach the Teachers' Project

A two week topic project

As we are getting closer to the end of the school year, the Year 5 team thought you would like the opportunity to ‘Teach the Teachers’.

Over the next two weeks, we would like you to choose any topic that inspires you, or that you are truly passionate about, to teach not only the teachers but your fellow pupils as well.

We would also like you to decide how you would wish to present this information, you could create: a video, an information booklet, a PowerPoint Presentation, a model, a board game, or you may come up with your own idea.

We are really excited to see what you will create!smiley

Youth Sports Trust  National School Sport Week 2020 - at home.

If we were in school, we would normally host our annual school sports week during the second to last week of term but this information is from the Youth Sports Trust and linked to National School Sport Week 2020 - at home.

Ideally we would like parents to register themselves on the website and the wide range of resources will then be available for them to use. It would be fantastic if parents could send any pictures etc to our year group email addresses.

The website is:

If this doesn't work for whatever reason, try to  Google  ‘National School sport week 2020’, they will find it.

Some examples of the fantastic home learning we have received.

Well done Year 5 and thank-you for all your hard work.
